- After Hours at Cody's
After Hours at Cody's is an indie horror point-and-click fangame developed by Rookie Games, inspired by Scott Cawthon's Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. It is a fangame featuring an old cast of characters and immerses the player in its setting surrounding a mysterious entity, all complemented by engaging gameplay, cinematics, voice acting, subtitles, and a unique soundtrack.
The game was created following RookieReviews' two-year hiatus, during which he was concerned that his recent lack of expertise in Clickteam Fusion 2.5 might cause various roadblocks in the development of his highly anticipated fangame, Wonderland: Termination. Using characters originally conceptualized back in 2017, the game was not heavily teased beforehand and was suddenly released on May 15, 2025, receiving high praise for its unique gameplay and cinematic sequences.
The plot of After Hours at Cody's follows Bethany Hasters, who takes on the role of night guard at Cody and Co.'s Games and Grub. However, upon starting her shift, she becomes wrapped in a mysterious situation involving an Anomaly that haunts the establishment's halls and gradually corrupts the animatronics' programming. She is tasked with defending herself against the animatronics while gathering data to investigate the origins of the Anomaly.

Gameplay[]
After Hours at Cody's features a simple gameplay loop, but its main highlight revolves around the player’s ability to generate their own power via the Tablet. On the cameras, the player can time their switches with a switch meter which, when aligning their actions when the white bar overlap the red bar, recharges the camera. The player can continue stacking power using the switch meter to build a streak, which allows the camera to load more quickly and, as the combo increases, generates more power. Additionally, the player is provided with an Alarm button, but its use must be timed with the switch meter. When timed successfully, the Alarm can either fend off the animatronics or, in certain cases, attract their attention. The main goal for the player is to locate the Anomaly, who manifests throughout the location, and use the Alarm on him ten consecutive times while simultaneously fending off the animatronics. Prior to each night, the Anomaly can be seen tampering and activating with one of the four main animatronic performers at the location.

The Anomaly on the Front Desk camera.
Starting on Monday, the Anomaly is active, and it is recommended that the player actively searches for it. The Anomaly will periodically appear on a random camera via the Tablet, sometimes accompanied by a subtle audio cue comprised of a deep chuckle. It can take various phases on a single camera, occasionally blocking the entire feed even when animatronics are present. On the first night, the Anomaly is given a forgiving amount of time to be identified and countered. However, on later nights, if the player is not quick enough to locate it and respond, the Anomaly may disappear. To counteract the Anomaly, the player must successfully perform an Alarm action using the switch meter. When timed correctly, it sends the Anomaly away temporarily and contributes to filling the anomaly meter. Notably, the Anomaly cannot jumpscare the player.

Bella on the East Hall camera; second phase.
Additionally, Bella the Beaver activates on Monday alongside the Anomaly, starting on the Main Showstage with Cody the Coyote. Once activated, she will leave the Main Showstage and enter the Atrium. She will then progress to the East Hall, where she can be seen standing on the far side of the camera before approaching the right door of the Office. It is recommended that the player use the Alarm to get Bella’s attention before closing the door, allowing her to act more quickly. Without the Alarm, Bella will stand at the door, draining a significant amount of power before aggressively banging on it.

Morris peeking from the curtains.
Starting on Tuesday, Morris the Mouse activates and hides within the curtains located behind the player. It is worth noting that the player cannot turn back to check on Morris when the doors are closed. Initially, Morris can be seen laid inactive, however, throughout the night, he will gradually begin activating through four phases. Meanwhile, a panel to the left of the player displays four buttons that correspond to Morris's aggression levels. Depending on which phase he's in, the player must match his position with the appropriate buttons on the panel to judge his level of aggression. Morris will not jumpscare the player if they select one or multiple incorrect buttons on the panel.

Jack being corrupted by the Anomaly.
On Wednesday night, Jack the Jackal activates, located on his own camera labeled Forest Showstage. His mechanics are similar to Bella the Beaver, but he approaches from the opposite side. Upon activation from the Forest Showstage, he will enter the Atrium, where he will later move into the West Hall. Similar to Bella, Jack has two phases on this camera before attempting to approach the Office. During his second phase, he can act more quickly if the Alarm is used on him to get his attention; otherwise, he will drain a significant amount of power before banging on the door.

Cody on the Power Room camera.
Starting from Thursday, Cody the Coyote activates as the final mainline antagonist. He operates independently from the other animatronics and is primarily focused on sabotaging the player's power. In the initial nights, Cody can jumpscare the player if they run out of power. Before activating, Cody stands on the Main Showstage alongside Bella the Beaver; upon activation, he will enter the Atrium. After leaving the Atrium, he will move into either the Power Room or the Front Desk, where he can be seen progressing through two phases within each room. Initially, he remains inactive, simply staring at the camera. During the second phase, he begins tampering with the power, indicated by a flashing hazard sign on the power meter. The player must perform a successful Alarm action to send him back to the Main Showstage.
On Saturday night, a sudden twist occurs surrounding the animatronics.

![]() Klaus on the Atrium camera. Starting from Saturday night, the player will witness the animatronics dismantled before revealing Klaus, a clown-like animatronic responsible for the manifestation of the Anomaly, escaping his captivity and attempting to approach the player. Initially, Klaus will remain inactive in the Atrium, where the player can perform a successful Alarm action to raise their Anomaly meter when his eyes are glowing red. Once he leaves the Atrium, he will move quickly throughout the location, choosing to enter the West Hall, East Hall, Front Desk, or Power Room. When in the Front Desk or Power Room, Klaus will mimic Cody the Coyote's mechanics, beginning to sabotage the power and requiring the same countermeasures as with Cody to stop him. When in the West or East Hall, Klaus will imitate Bella and Jack's mechanics, involving two phases before attempting to approach the Office. During these phases, he may act more quickly if the Alarm is used to gain his attention. Upon being successfully countered, Klaus will return to the Atrium with his eyes glowing red, ready to repeat the cycle. Meanwhile, replacing Morris the Mouse, Shadow Cody will begin to appear behind the curtain located directly behind the player. He requires the same counteracting methods used for Morris; however, his position is different. |
Plot[]
Backstory[]
After Hours at Cody's takes the perspective of Bethany Hasters, who takes a job at Cody and Co.'s Games and Grub. The company behind the restaurant, Warren Technology, had undergone a series of behind-the-scenes and public scandals, eventually culminating in the events depicted in the game. The timeline begins with Daaryl and Lonnie Warren, two brothers who grew up with eachother. Not much is known about their backstory; however, Lonnie has expressed disdain for Daaryl, describing him as an "emotional disaster" since childhood. In adulthood, little is known either, but it is stated that Lonnie invited Daaryl to help him with his business, Warren Technology, after seeing him in a miserable and hopeless situation. While Lonnie directed the company, Daaryl was responsible for creating the Cody and Co. cast, eventually leading to the restaurants opening at an unknown date.
On December 9, 1989, an instruction manual for Warren Technology’s latest creation, Full Limbic Extremity eXtension (F.L.E.X.), was recorded on VHS. The manual detailed the procedures for entering and operating the costume. Much of the tape is redacted or skipped, but a crucial segment warns employees not to wear the suit while it is in performance mode, as the animatronic suit can contort its body and limbs unpredictably. Toward the end of the tape, it begins to corrupt, showing an illustration of an employee trapped inside the clown-like F.L.E.X. suit. The footage depicts the employee performing while ensnared within it. The tape then instructs for any trapped employee to attempt to tuck their arms and legs into the torso of the suit and shout, "ABORT SHOWTIME PROTOCOL. JONAH PROTOCOL. IN EFFECT."

Daaryl inquiring about the companies finances.
On September 23, 1996, Daaryl and Lonnie Warren were recorded having a tense conversation. Daaryl expressed concern after reviewing the company's financial statements, noting that unknown withdrawals were being sent to redacted recipients. He clarified that the lack of funds would hinder his research and development of a series of new mascots scheduled to debut the following year. Lonnie admitted that the withdrawals were his doing, however, when asked about the identity of the recipients, the VHS tape redacted that information. Following this revelation, Daaryl began to scold Lonnie, warning that whatever Lonnie was investing in could actively harm their audience, particularly children. Lonnie exploded in response, asserting that it was his company and he was responsible for the funds. He belittled Daaryl for his self-righteousness, calling it pathetic, and claimed that he had helped Daaryl years ago when Daaryl "crawled to me [Lonnie] begging for help."
On October 10, 1996, a recording captures another conversation between the two brothers that took place the following month. Daaryl announces his decision to leave Warren Technology, accompanied by Cynthia, an employee responsible for the company's transactions. Daaryl claims that Lonnie is actively interfering with his efforts to build something new, stating that Lonnie is "pulling the rug from under my [Daaryl's] feet." Lonnie attempts to manipulate Daaryl, referencing the events from the previous VHS tape, but Daaryl remains steadfast with his choice, vowing to depart from the company. He states that Cynthia had retrieved the company's financial statements from the past two years and threatened to Lonnie that he would report him to authorities if he resorts to violence to retrieving the financial statements. As Daaryl begins to leave the building, Lonnie panics. In a sudden and aggressive move, Lonnie physically assaults Daaryl with a metal object, knocking him unconscious.

Daaryl Warren in the F.L.E.X. suit.
That same night, Daaryl awoke inside the F.L.E.X. suit. As Lonnie approached him, Daaryl began to beg to be released from the suit, but Lonnie remained persistent, asking Daaryl why he was forced to come to this solution. When asked what his proposed solution was, Lonnie started to walk away as Daaryl begged him to come back. In response, Lonnie stated, "Nobody can know about this." Suddenly, Daaryl activated the F.L.E.X. suit's performance mode, leading to Daaryl Warren's body being mutilated within the suit.

Lonnie Warren commemorating the loss of his brother.
On July 7, 1997, Lonnie Warren issued a public announcement expressing his sympathy over his brother Darren’s disappearance. He credited Daaryl for his creativity and his role within the company. Additionally, Lonnie also addressed concerns regarding his potential involvement in Darren’s disappearance, stating that he had received numerous threats. He explained that he was mourning Darren’s death, emphasizing that Daaryl was family to him. Finally, Lonnie formally announced his resignation as proprietor of Cody & Co., passing the position on to Dominic Sanchez.
Prior to the events of the game, employees at Cody & Co.'s Games and Grub experienced issues related to an unidentified Anomaly captured on the location’s surveillance system. The staff remained unaware of the nature of the entity, however it was documented that the Anomaly had not engaged with any employees at Cody & Co. according to past guards at the location. Furthermore, it was stated that Lonnie Warren had sold Darryl's blueprints and patents of his work to an unspecified company.
After Hours at Cody's[]
Starting on November 9, 1997, Bethany Hasters began working at Cody & Co.'s Games and Grub. On her first night, Dominic Sanchez contacted her, introducing himself and explaining the core mechanics of the location. He then revealed that her job involved more than it appeared—specifically, monitoring the location for a mysterious Anomaly. He instructed her to gather data on the entity and to use the Alarm to send it away when necessary. Each subsequent night, the Anomaly activates one of the four animatronics, beginning with Bella, followed by Morris, Jack, and lastly Cody. On her second shift, Sanchez explained that, although the Anomaly's whereabouts and identity remained unknown, it might be some form of virus. He disclosed that the Anomaly was transmitting data into the animatronics, attempting to corrupt and control their behaviors.
By Wednesday, Sanchez revealed that the Anomaly was directing the animatronics to carry out unknown actions, suggesting it had become increasingly sophisticated. On Thursday, he frustratingly stated that the animatronics were far from repair, citing difficulties faced by technicians due to the lack of blueprints, originally written by Darryl Warren, that would facilitate necessary repairs. Suddenly, on Friday, Sanchez informed Bethany that the original code of the animatronics had been nearly entirely corrupted by the Anomaly. He also disclosed that Lonnie Warren, despite announcing his resignation from Cody & Co., was still actively managing the company behind the scenes. Sanchez requested a meeting with Lonnie on Saturday night, who Lonnie proposed they investigate a room behind the Main Showstage where they could work on the animatronics and possibly uncover more about the Anomaly. Sanchez states that Hasters can meet them that same night, to which she return in the midst of a violent situation.
Upon receiving a call from Sanchez, he warns Hasters that Lonnie was attempting to trap him and that he had not met Sanchez at the location like he promosed. Rather, the F.L.E.X. animatronic containing Daaryl Warren had been released from the Backstage where he was locked within, dismantling all the animatronics in the process. Sanchez yells at Hasters to escape the location, but he is caught by Daaryl as the call cuts out. She manages to reach 5:00 AM before making an attempt to escape, however, Daaryl catches up to her and cryptically states that she may come in handy for an unspecified project between the two of them. According to a newspaper article detailing Bethany Haster's disappearance, her disappearance was considered shallow, and authorities were actively searching for her. Meanwhile, it was reported that Lonnie had since sent the damaged animatronics back to a sister facility for repairs.

The unknown Cody bot.
In a recent patch for After Hours at Cody's, specifically version 1.0.5, Rookie Games provided additional clarification regarding the game's ending. A newly-implemented cutscene can be viewed after completing the Box Ending. Upon opening the box, Daaryl Warren (still within Klaus) and Bethany Hasters are shown having a more casual conversation. When Bethany opens the box, Daaryl relays that it is a "gift" to her containing a series of Cody and Co. memorabilia, including a photograph of two boys, a Cody the Coyote mask, and a torn photo featuring the Klaus suit alongside an unidentifiable suit adorned with a flower pendant.
Bethany questions the nature of the box, to which Darryl responds that it contains "memories." She further comments on when they'll manage to locate "him," heavily implicated to be Lonnie Warren, to which Daaryl responds by stating that he has so much to teach her and states that her next decision is her ultimate choice. The cutscene concludes with a disturbing look into a withered Cody the Coyote, whose eyes suddenly activate with a phantom blue glow, revealing a haunting stare.
Development[]
After Hours at Cody's lacked any promotional material or teasing, being suddenly shadowdropped on May 15, 2025. Initially, RookieReviews mentioned in a previous post, published to celebrate reaching 8,000 followers on Wonderland: Termination's GameJolt page, that he was working on a "secret project" that was consuming most of his time. He expressed that the game, later revealed to be After Hours at Cody's, was close to being complete and shared that the development of the game taught him a lot about Clickteam Fusion 2.5.[1]
On May 5, 2025, RookieReviews posted an ominous screenshot of Klaus' face, as seen in the Bonus Content tab, on his Discord server.[2] That same day, he announced that he was interested in inviting four playtesters for unknown reasons.[3]
On May 7, RookieReviews posted various cropped screenshots of After Hours at Cody's, stating that the "new game" was 98% complete. The cropped images included a close-up of Klaus's eyes, the Alarm button in use, posters visible on the East Hall camera, and the label for the Forest Showstage camera, which showed a view of Jack the Jackal's shoulder and rightmost head.[4]
On May 15, RookieReviews suddenly announced that something was expected to occur at 4:00 PM UTC that same day, accompanied by a small render of a tiled floor with a red emitting light containing a tablet displaying the same time.[5] As promsied, at 4:00 UTC on May 15, 2025, After Hours at Cody's was officially released.[6]
