Banshee, also known as Fazbear's Pizzeria Tycoon!, is an upcoming indie horror point-and-click fangame developed by KimarZuru, inspired by Scott Cawthon's Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. It is based on Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, featuring brand new grim visuals and revamped mechanics for the night segments and drawing inspiration from early-age video games for the tycoon segments.

Following the release of Revenant, KimarZuru officially announced Banshee on November 13, 2023. As KimarZuru became increasingly busy, he promised to release all assets for the game if it wasn't finished by the end of 2024. After having gone through various iterations, including a character and tycoon rework, it continued development and eventually received a demo showcasing a proof-of-concept that is subject to change on March 8, 2025.

The plot of Banshee has been teased as a retelling of the events detailed in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, with an expectation that it will present the narrative in a more story-driven and unique approach rather than relying on the iconic story moments from that game.[1] Not much is known at this time. However, it has been shown in the demo that Henry Emily, William Afton, and Michael Afton are slated to appear in the full release of Banshee.

This is not set in the same universe as Revenant. It is it's own separate story, this game could almost be seen as a "homage" to late 90s - early 2000s games & media. Described as "based-on" instead of a remake as it shares hardly anything directly gameplay-wise with FNAF 6.

Gameplay[]

Demo[]

Upon selecting a new game and watching the opening cutscene, the player will be placed within the Salvage sequence, situated on the opposite side of a desk containing Afton. Henry Emily instructs the player to document any abnormal behavior exhibited by the animatronic prior to salvaging it, utilizing a magnetic field reader that measures the animatronic's aggression. The player is promised a higher reward for documenting increased aggression on the magnetic field reader, which can be done by clicking on the keyboard. Additionally, if the player hears any deep groans between audio prompts, they must instantly pause the tape and wait a few seconds. This sequence can be easily skipped by clicking the keyboard thrice, as the game does not currently feature a proper currency system.

Upon completing the Salvage sequence, Banshee's demo transitions into the main nighttime gameplay loop. Henry instructs the player to complete their tasks as efficiently as possible for a higher reward while monitoring the location through a terminal prompt that leads to separate camera feeds. The four tasks include validating shipment details, deleting sensitive or incriminating news related to Fazbear Entertainment, submitting animatronic calibration data using a given code, and ensuring animatronic stability by correlating the data with the arrow keys. Meanwhile, as the player performs their tasks, Afton and Yellowbear serve as the two main antagonists of the demo.

Afton is the most prominent antagonist of the demo, appearing on the cameras as he attempts to reach the player’s Office. He begins his approach from FEED 07 and progresses through FEED 06 and then into FEED 03, where he approaches the player from the left corridor. Once he leaves FEED 03, Afton will slowly step into the Office. The player must respond quickly by staring at him, which causes him to step back and return to FEED 07. If the player fails to turn in time or leaves Afton in the office for too long, he will jumpscare the player.

Yellowbear also makes an appearance as a secondary antagonist in the demo. When the player is occupied with the computer, whether they are completing tasks, monitoring the cameras, or preparing an audio lure, an aspect of the office will suddenly change to display the message "IT'S ME :-)". This includes the Bonnie drawing on the left, the clown illustration on the right, and the labels on the binders when in the Office. To prevent Yellowbear from manifesting, the player must temporarily close their eyes. If the player fails to respond to the altered hallucinations, Yellowbear will manifest directly in front of them and jumpscare the player.

Upon beating the demo, the game will briefly be left on a cliffhanger before the player can open a safe from the perspective of an unknown individual, possibly Michael Afton. However, by clicking the photo on the left of the main menu, the player is sent to an unfinished part of the tycoon segments. Despite KimarZuru stating in-game that the tycoon aspects of the game are still very underdeveloped, players can continuously press the save button to create their own pizzeria with the limited props available to them. These include five different floors, a safe, wooden chairs, and potted plants. By pressing "P," customers will begin to appear in the restaurant.

Plot[]

Banshee aims to offer a different retelling of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, focusing on the same relative plot points while avoiding a direct replication of the original game. As stated by KimarZuru, the intent is to retell the story in a more emotional and original manner.[1] Upon opening the demo, players are greeted with a cutscene featuring Henry Emily monologuing about the effects of William Afton’s actions and expressing his feelings of responsibility for not attempting to stop him. He vows to "take matters into my own hands" and swears not to allow Afton to go unpunished for the restless spirits seeking revenge for their murders, aiming to finally bring peace to his daughter Charlotte Emily. However, as suggested within the demo, Henry Emily fails to let go of aspects which no longer exist following the Five Nights at Freddy's 3 fire. Michael Afton is not undead unlike his predecessor.

Reception[]

Since its release, Banshee's demo has received a significant amount of positive attention due to its promising spin on Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, particularly in its presentation, atmosphere, character models, and gameplay. Many players found the game's grim and uneasy aesthetic to be visually pleasing as well as the atmospheres being rich. In contrast, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator primarily offered a compact metal room lacking an immersive atmosphere during the night sequences. As a result of this decision, many praised Banshee for it allowing players to see the animatronics on cameras and even having the atmosphere to work against the player, as demonstrated with Yellowbear.

The character models are significant upgrades over the default Scrap Animatronics, which were critiqued for various reasons. In particular, Afton has been adapted in Banshee to have a more pleasant yet disturbing appearance, while creative spins on other characters, such as Scrap Baby's doll-like design and Molten Freddy's decrepit nature, having been well received. Finally, many players complimented the story's presentation and gameplay, which serves as a major step-up from Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. Banshee allows for more engaging tasks that require focus and taking inspiration from KimarZuru's previous release, Revenant, moving beyond merely clicking buttons and waiting for the animatronics to reach the office, rather controlling an outdated computer terminal to access the desired tab.

Overall, Banshee's demo, while subject to change, has impressed many fans who appreciate its efforts to rework and retell Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator through unique storytelling, gameplay, and atmospheres. The atmospheres are striking and serve as a significant stepping stone in reimagining the game. The animatronic models are much more pleasant and stylized, while the storytelling adopts a distinctive approach. The gameplay features creative changes, such as unique tasks and an improved camera system. Fans await the final release of Banshee, which promises an upcoming a 2000s-stylized tycoon editor that doubles as a canonical game, more animatronics, cutscenes, and individual animatronic "personalities" during Salvage sequences.
