The development history of Five Nights at Freddy's: BLOOD & GEARS is extensive, which as of June 2024, spans seven months. According to JDBYRANT, the game's development began in November 2023, which aligns with the first post about Blood and Gears that were initially unclear about whether they were related to the fangame itself.

Pre-Development

The first teaser dedicated to Blood and Gears was an 8-bit doodle of Byrant's take on Freddy Fazbear posted on November 12, 2023. That same day, two more sketched drawings of Freddy were posted on Bryant's Twitter. before, that same day, an official look at Freddy Fazbear was revealed Continuing after redesigning Freddy, after two teasers, a full-body reference for Bryant's take on Bonnie the Bunny was showcased. It is to note that, at the time, these sketches weren't planned to be for Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears.

On November 13, JDBRYANT continued to post their redesigns, this time however, two more full-body references for their interpretations of Freddy Fazbear and Chica the Chicken. To celebrate their redesigns, the artist also shared a rough art piece featuring all three animatronics. With the main three created, JDBYRANT began on Foxy's redesign, however they had an issue with styling Foxy the Pirate to be similar to the rest. He took this confusion to Twitter with a unfinished draft to see their opinions. With the only suggestion to give him a goatee, as JDBRYANT continued working, They posted an image showcasing an untextured Bonnie the Bunny model that was dedicated to their redesign of the character. The image was additionally edited to be replicating the "My Honest Reaction" meme. An hour later, instead of Foxy the Pirate, Bryant shared a photo of their redesign of Chica's Cupcake. Just nine minutes later, a post detailing JDBRYANT's design process and thoughts behind their reinterpretations of the characters was posted alongside an image of his Chica redesign, now reunited with her cupcake. In this post, he shared that they aimed to create animatronics that looked playful and yet intimidating, with a style inspired by real animatronic performers. However, they noted that with the right lighting, these same animatronics could take on a scary appearance.

Still considering the same day, JDBRYANT continued to seek feedback on his designs, this time posting a half-body sketch of Foxy to solicit criticism. He followed up with a separate image showcasing Foxy's iconic hook, and shortly after, a colored final draft of the character was shared. Forgetting to put seem outlines on Foxy, a trait added on the other characters, Bryant took to Twitter again to post his new final reference before logging off for the day.

On November 14, JDBRYANT took to Twitter to ask his followers a question: whether they thought Freddy's legs were too long. Despite the majority of responses agreeing that the proportions were perfect, Bryant decided to make a change to his Bonnie the Bunny redesign, posting new proportions for feedback. The comments were mixed, but ultimately, Bryant settled on the new proportions and incorporated them into their designs. On the same day, Bryant officially showcased the Bonnie the Bunny model, designed by Chromanitte, which he believed captured the same vibe as the original Five Nights at Freddy's animatronics despite being a completely different model. Six hours after the animatronics proportions update, a reference photo for a hypothetical exterior to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was posted by JDBYRANT. An hour later, a pencil sketch featuring Bonnie and Chica was posted.

On November 15, JDBRYANT tweeted an image of their final rough sketch for a hypothetical Freddy Fazbear's Pizza exterior. Bryant drew inspiration from classic children's entertainment restaurants like Billy Bob's Wonderland, Showbiz Pizza Place, and Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza.

On November 22, JDBRYANT made a significant announcement, revealing that all previous character sketches were actually dedicated to his upcoming fangame, Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears. The announcement was accompanied by a render of Chromanitte's Bonnie model, which was captioned with the revealed title alongside a tagged user. This user linked to an account specifically dedicated to the game. In addition, Bryant shared that for every 100 followers, a voice actor for the game would be revealed. That same day, JDBRYANT officially revealed that the previous sketches of each character was all dedicated to Bryant's upcoming fangame, Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears. Accompanied by A render of Chromanitte, a Twitter account dedicated to the game was tagged in the post. That same day, Bryant announced that, for every 100 followers, a voice actor for the game would be revealed.

Development

On November 23, it was revealed that @Strictly_Silly_ on Twitter would be voicing Freddy Fazbear in Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears. Additionally, on the same day, the first official teaser according to the Blood & Gears website was posted. The teaser featured a carousel with wooden Freddy-themed seats sitting behind a foggy background, accompanied by the text "Round and round we go. Where we're going? Nobody knows."

On November 24, in celebration to 200 followers, it was revealed that @MrSTStudios on Twitter would be voicing the Phone Guy within the game. That same day, the second official teaser for Blood & Gears would release, featuring a thumbnail-styled picture of Bonnie the Bunny standing alongside the Blood & Gears logo.

On November 25, after gaining a surge of followers, the Blood and Gears Twitter account would announce that @Squeekzanim on Twitter would be the leading voice actor for Bonnie the Bunny in Blood & Gears. Later that day, to mark the occasion of 800 followers, it was revealed that @Radioactive8ba1 would be voicing Chica the Chicken. As the final addition to the cast, Artydoesstuff would be voicing Foxy the Pirate.

On November 25, upon having a surge of followers, it was announced that @Squeekzanim on Twitter would be voicing Bonnie the Bunny in Blood & Gears. That same day, in celebration for 800 followers, it was revealed that @Radioactive8ba1 on Twitter would voice Chica the Chicken. Finally, as the final actor, Foxy the Pirate would be acted by ArtyDoesStuff.

On November 26, the Blood & Gears Twitter account revealed the third official teaser for the game. In the teaser, a silhouette of Freddy Fazbear's shadow can be seen looming along a brick wall.

On December 3, a teaser was released featuring a poster of Carl the Cupcake, which is trademarked by Fazbear Entertainment and was last renewed in 1990.

On December 12, a teaser was released, featuring a slightly blurry image that hinted at a complete animatronic endoskeleton. The render focused on the torso, with the head and lower body partially obscured.

On December 16, the Blood & Gears team began to reveal the main cast at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, starting with a vintage-style photo reveal of Freddy. Each week, a new animatronic would be revealed, with Bonnie appearing on December 23 and Chica on December 30. Initially, Foxy was scheduled to be revealed on January 7, 2024, but it was later announced that his reveal would be indefinitely delayed. Instead, a mysterious animatronic shrouded in darkness was teased, sparking speculation and fans stating it was potentially Sparky the Dog.

On January 14, artwork of each animatronics cartoon counterparts would be drawn by JDBRYANT and posted onto the Blood & Gears Twitter account.

On January 28, 2024, it was officially announced that Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears would be developed using the Godot engine.

On January 30, the Blood & Gears Twitter account posted another poster, this one featuring artwork of Bonnie the Bunny hanging by a thin rope. The caption read "Hang in there!" alongside the Fazbear Entertainment trademark, which was still last renewed in 1990.

On March 2, following a series of posts encouraging fans to vote for FNAF: Blood & Gears at The Fazzies, the game's Twitter account posted a new poster featuring all four animatronics playing with plush versions of themselves. The poster did not include the Fazbear Entertainment trademark, and was instead captioned with "PLAY!". That same day, the game's Twitter account also introduced a potential new character, Bagatha. In a surprising turn of events, Bagatha donated $50 to Dawko's Palestine Child Relief Fund, which after nearly 8 hours of streaming, the initial goal of $50,000 was beaten by over $11,000. As a result, Dawko showcased teasers for several upcoming fangames, including Captain Foxy's Pirate Adventure!, The Return to Bloody Nights VR port, and most notably, a teaser for Blood and Gears' new Show Stage.

On March 3, the Blood & Gears Twitter account posted a special thank-you message. Freddy Fazbear, who was previously stated to be voiced by @Strictly_Silly_, took the opportunity to thank Dawko for showcasing the FNAF: Blood & Gears' new teaser on his stream. Additionally, Freddy Fazbear thanked Tarryn from Real Time Studios, @UniqueGeese on Twitter, and@LegitHelloburp from The Pizzeria Roleplay Remastered for their assistance in promoting the teaser on Dawko's stream.

On March 4, the Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears game revealed a new official logo for the game.

On March 5, a new teaser was released, showcasing a reimagined version of the Brother animatronic from FNAF: In Real Time. The teaser image hinted at a potential collaboration between FNAF: In Real Time and FNAF: Blood & Gears.

On March 11, the Blood & Gears team announced that they would be unable to meet their previously stated deadline to release the demo in April 2024, instead pushing the release back to the summer. Despite the disappointing news, many fans of the game expressed their excitement and eagerness for the demo, regardless of the new release date.

On March 20, it was announced that a Q&A video for FNAF: Blood & Gears would be released. However, as of June 14, the video has yet to be released.

On March 23, the team behind FNAF: Blood & Gears shared new artwork as an official teaser. The painting features Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica standing on the Show Stage, with Chica's Magic Rainbow looming in the background as the stages backdrop.

On April 1, it was announced that FNAF: Blood & Gears would be cancelled. However, as the post was published on April Fools' Day, upon brightening the image, the words "jk lol" appeared beneath the text, accompanied by a pixelated shot of Chica's Magic Rainbow from FNAF World, reimagined in a stylized form inspired by JDBRYANT's redesigns.

On April 7, the eleventh official teaser for Blood & Gears according to their website, was revealed to be a pleasant render. The image showcases a forest in the background, with electricity lines, signifying the setting of the teaser being on a road. The highlight of the render was a gleaming sign for Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place. The caption accompanying the image states: "You thought you would never return to this place of sorrow, but 20 years later, something has called you back."

On April 10, a new thumbnail for the game would be revealed on Twitter and posted across their GameJolt and Itch.io pages.

On April 15, the official team behind FNAF: Blood & Gears released a nostalgic poster based on the "Celebrate!" poster from the first Five Nights at Freddy's game. Unexpectedly, instead of the 1990 copyright date, the poster now states Fazbear Entertainment copyright was last renewed in 1992. In addition to the updated copyright information, the poster also features Bonnie the Bunny sitting, which is a departure from his original character design. This design decision had been recently popularized during the development of the game and implemented into various fan-made games, such as Graveyard Shift at Freddy's.

On April 23, the Blood & Gears Twitter account announced they were seeking children's drawings for their Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place, inspired by the original Five Nights at Freddy's game. They asked fans to create "purposely bad children's art" and provided sheets for drawing. With nearly 190k views on their Twitter post, the response was overwhelming, with hundreds of submissions received across Twitter and Discord.

On April 26, another shot of the Show Stage for Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears was showcased. Additionally, a vague shot of The Rainbow can be seen in the background. That same day, the Blood & Gears Twitter account reached 5,000 followers. In celebration, The Rainbow would officially be revealed upon making various minor appearances within teasers.

On April 28, the Blood & Gears team released a terrifying teaser video featuring VHS footage of The Rainbow rising from the Show Stage backdrop. The realistic graphics and inspiration from the Sun animatronic from the Rock-afire Explosion band frightened fans, with many commenting that the teaser was extremely scary. Newer fans additionally stated that it was the first thing to scare them in a long time.

On May 3, a GIF of Blood & Gears' reimagining of Helpy from FNAF: Pizzeria Simulator was released. The redesigned Helpy is depicted staring at a computer with a confused expression, before suddenly jumping in celebration, reminiscent of the Lawsuit sequences in Pizzeria Simulator. This new version of Helpy features circular glasses, an enlarged purple bowtie, and a black suit.

On May 23, a recreation of the original Five Nights at Freddy's was released on Twitter and YouTube accounts. The teaser featured JDBRYANT's reimagined models for Blood & Gears. Although some elements, such as the Show Stage, were created specifically for the trailer and won't appear in the final release of Blood & Gears, fans praised the teaser for its faithful recreation of the original trailer while using unique models.

On May 24, the children's drawing competition that was previously showcased in the teaser came to an end. The Blood & Gears team officially revealed that a ton of children's artwork had been implemented into the game. While the teaser had only featured a few of the artworks, the team shortly afterwards shared all of the planned posters that would be included in the final game.

On June 3, Foxy's full model was revealed. In the past, all animatronics excluding Foxy had their models revealed in prior teasers.

On June 13, the Blood & Gears team shared an image that teased a "Sneak Peek Demo", which would feature Xander Alsip as the protagonist and VoicesByCorey providing the voice acting for Jeremy. Ironically, the initial post of the teaser featured a typo, having "Sneak-Peak" instead of "Sneak-Peek". An hour later, the correct version would be posted.

On June 23, JDBRYANT revealed that he planned to reveal the demo for Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears on their birthday on their birthday, July 7.
