Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears, otherwise simply known as Blood & Gears or FNAF: BaG is an indie point-and-click fangame directed by JBDRYANTdev, inspired by Scott Cawthon's Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. It is a unique reimagining of the Five Nights at Freddy's interpretation developed by a series of talented minds and under the Godot engine.
As JDBRYANT's finalized development for a demo to his upcoming original project, UNMASKED, he began sharing doodles of his take on the Five Nights at Freddy's animatronics on his Twitter account starting from November 12, 2023.[1] Over time, these doodles evolved into full-body references, and eventually, 3D models of the characters were created.[2][3] Ten days after the reveal, Bryant announced the creation of the Blood & Gears Twitter account, promising to reveal the voice actors for every 100 followers. Shortly after reaching the milestone, on November 23, 2023, the first official teaser for the game was revealed.[4]
The plot of Blood & Gears, while relatively lacking without an official release, plans to include a reimagining of the original characters and storyline. The game's protagonist, who currently is unnamed, returns to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place after a 20-year absence upon locating a job listing in the newspaper. Unlike other fan-made games, Blood & Gears is designed to be a standalone title, aiming to not utilize oversaturated features found in many fangames before its time.
Initially, a demo was announced on the game's legacy website slated for April 2024. However, JDBRYANT surprised fans by stating that the demo's release date would be revealed on his birthday. As promised, on their birthday, it was revealed the Post-Night Demo would release on July 20, 2024. The demo offers the first interactive experience for the game, introducing players to Monday's Overtime Task consisting of playing Freddy on the Run.

Development[]
Gameplay[]
Despite the lack of gameplay reveals for Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears, which is likely to be teased during the planned DEMO for this Summer, the team has given hints about their approach to game design. On their official Twitter account, they had posted a question suggesting that they aim to avoid using overdone mechanics in FNAF fan games.[5] Additionally, director JDBRYANT described the game as a blend of the original Five Nights at Freddy's experience with some new mechanics.[6] Following each night, the player will be tasked to perform a specific task which will be credited on the protagonists paycheck.
Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears will have subtitles on release.[7]
Plot[]
The plot of Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears remains lacking and shrouded in mystery, with few details revealed so far. The game's protagonist, whose name remains unknown, is believed to have previously worked at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place, a children's entertainment restaurant featuring the beloved Freddy & Friends cast created by Fazbear Entertainment. Interestingly, official artwork suggests that the characters may have their own cartoon series, potentially signifying that the characters originated from the cartoon.

The setting of the game is additionally unclear, as it is unknown whether Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place closed in 1992, the last copyright renewal date mentioned in posters, or if it was still operational beyond that point in time. However within the Office teaser, it is revealed that Charlie Emily is canon to the plot of Five Nights at Freddy's: Blood & Gears.[8] This implies that our protagonist left the location due to the Missing Children's Incident, or the rumors surrounding it. Regardless of the timeline, 20 years after the protagonist presumably left Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place, they are somehow drawn back to the location after locating an article detailing a position as a night-guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place.[9]
In October of 2003, our protagonist is provided the position at the restaurant. It is suggested that, throughout their shift, they receive messages and tips from a character known only as "Jeremy", whose has been teased in the Office teaser alongside being planned to make an appearance within the DEMO.[10] Meanwhile, the performers of the location, Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Bunny, Chica the Chicken, and Foxy the Pirate, attempt to hunt down the player, who is stuck inside the Employees Office. New "fan-made" characters are also intended to make appearances within the game. It is unknown if plot-points such as Golden Freddy will be featured inside FNaF: Blood & Gears.
Reception[]
Prior to the release of Blood & Gears, fans were eagerly anticipating the game, setting the bar high alongside FNaF Fangames such as Five Nights at Freddy's: In Real Time, which was also in development and heavily backed the development of Blood & Gears. Teasers of the animatronics sparked nostalgia and praise from fans, who praised the game for its ability to replicate Scott Cawthon's horror style while using real-life inspired animatronic designs. Additionally, locations such as the Show Stage, in particular, was revealed to be expansive, parting away from the typical formula of placing the player within a compact restaurant.
More is to be expected by the Blood & Gears team soon.
